So. Everybody knows that "AI" is the future and inevitable and everyone loves it.

That is why Microsoft and Google are paying influencers between 400K and 600K to sell their AI products:

    Access Denied

But hey, those are very serious businesses, they must have done their research and run their cost-benefit analyses to ensure they spend their money wisely, right? Quote:

"Creators can charge up to $100,000 per post, Eckstein said.
“Some of these bigger companies have so much money to spend,” he said, “that they don’t care to negotiate.”"

@tante Avian Intelligence "is the future", I'm told, which is part of the reason why I'm on a #deGoogled Fairphone 4 and Linux, waiting to see if the bubble bursts, and whether we get to see any pretty colours in the moment before it does.

@alebaffa2 @tante Sorry, your scare tactics simply don't work on us. "You're at risk if you don't start now" is pure hype.

@tante Indeed, but it's probably safe to assume part of that recklessness in spending is caused by their jump in valuation from the bubble

It's stupid anyway, though, I don't see how that 100,000$ given to a YouTuber could provide a substantial return on investment

            @ariarhythmic @tante

Compared to the running costs of AI alone, $100k is small change.

Compared to the anticipated(!) revenue, it's practically free advertising.

They should he paying much *more* according to their infallible business logic.

Great point! If AI was truly inevitable and everyone loved it, why spend $500K per influencer to convince people?

Real value sells itself. This feels like hype-driven marketing, not organic adoption.

The bubble signs are there. 💭

@tante I think in order for this observation to have any meaning you'd have at the very least to contrast the amount spent on marketing with the amount spent on product development and compare to other industries/endeavors. numbers mean little without context.

@HolgerTDittmann @tante '59% of executives say quantum-enabled AI will transform their industry by 2030'.

                  Jesus Christ.

I have a new business plan. I'm going to offer a service where I will survey a company's executives to find these people, and then personally hand them a P45. My rates will be low because my job satisfaction will be immense.

@tante @jf_718 when I see news like this, I imagine what would happen if the money and media promotion effort was spent on restoring wetlands and food forests.

(Thank you for everyone doing that without the extreme resources of Microsoft,, Google, and Apple.)
