Sex work is work and the labor involved is labor and labor should be valued and the workers protectedShould not be controversial amongst the left

@summerwing and every "counterpoint" to this take is always just another really good reason that the workers should be protected
@raphaelmorgan this!!!!!!!!!!!

@summerwing Is there anything that *isn't* controversial to the left?
@heiglandreas @summerwing
the left has issues because its gotta fit every other ideology except capitalism, white supremacy, christian nationalism, and patriarchyits the price of free thought, the thought part. not getting your opinions from some authoritarian con-man
but I'm a transgender anarchist-socialist and kick it with a wide variety of lefties - and they are all sex work supportive
people are on journeys though, deprogramming themselves, so we have to educate and bring people along as much as possible
that can be really hard sometimes. you do it for decades and the work remains never-ending. meanwhile a lot of the ally-ship you need to keep functioning doesn't turn up
the left - the real left, not the centrist cosplaying suffragettes - are constantly attacked, smeared as terrorists, so we need to show each other compassion
that starts with you

@heiglandreas @normjess @summerwing So true. The left is not an ideology- these days it’s basically anyone who’s not prepared to turn a blind eye to the planet being boiled or whole populations wiped out for the profits of a handful.

@licho I understand that, I just don't recognize it as a legitimate position to have while being genuinely leftist. I say this because I am anti work myself! But while and when people must work, I want them/us to have full labor protections and rights. Which is what I want for sex workers!

Should not be controversial amongst the left@summerwing It isn't.

@summerwing It isn't.
@the_moep isn't work or isn't controversial? because I think it's still pretty controversial among plenty of people who call themselves leftists. SWERF ideologies have a pretty decent foothold in some spaces right now.

@summerwing It isn't controversial. Are you sure you actually interact with progressive leftists and not some form of liberals or cultural conservatives/authoritarians?

@the_moep that's a condescending question. just look at the other replies on this post where someone points out the anti work argument, which I have repeatedly seen being made in leftist spaces. obviously also read my answer to it.

@summerwing I don't see how the "work" is controversial. Of course the leftist goal is for no work being forced on anyone like it is done in the current capitalist system. What type of work it is should not matter, hence my question.

@the_moep I don't see why I need to spell this out personally, but okay. There are a lot of radical feminist anti-capitalists (ostensibly, leftists) who believe that sex work in itself is exploitation and commodification of the female body separate from its status as labor. I am happy for you if you haven't encountered them. They are known for speaking over actual sex workers.
