Exciting announcement!

@hpod16 I commented on YouTube, mentioning "hpod16" (in an attempt to promote your Mastodon account), but it got deleted.
@hannes99 @Veza85UE @rozeboosje
That's weird.... wasn't me who deleted it, I don't have the keys to that account yet (or else I would have been answering comments on the weekend)
Perhaps there's a filter that automatically deletes links? I will investigate -

First I wrote smth like: "find purple Hannah on Mastodon: hpod16"
And then I tried simply: "
hpod16"Both got deleted.

But thanks for commenting!@hpod16 I didn't comment on the topic (yet), though. Maybe that's why.

@rozeboosje @Veza85UE
I will look into it but no promises
This was conceived as a dedicated YouTube project, and we brought people in who are YouTubers, etc.
pS: dumb question time: whatβs the difference between having a peer tube account and just uploading videos on the mastodon server you/I already have? Are there technical aspects to it?@hpod16 well, Peertube supports subtitles and custom video quality settings, Mastodon doesn't. Peertube supports large(r), heavy videos, Mastodon doesn't (only up to about 60 MB). Peertube servers are optimized for video streaming und buffering, whereas Mastodon servers are optimized for quick delivery and federation of posts.

Thanks for the info.
If anything I'd probably start with a personal channel, to make sure I fully understand the thing before I even pitch this to my team. So don't hold your breath about this channel mirroring to PeerTube anytime soon. (we more pretty slow, we are a biiiiig institution, so many peopel sign off on everything)
So for now just expect maybe some personal videos popping up o peertube soon -

@hannes99 @loops @rozeboosje @Veza85UE
I did make a loops account already, but then I remembered I kind of hate TikTok
so I wasn't feeling very inspired by loops because it just reminds me of tiktok.
I'm a horizontal, long-form video girlie -

THE interesting part, opposed to YouTube (and TikTok), is then when you comment (or like) via Mastodon, comments are still visible for everyone on PeerTube (or Loops).

I'm a horizontal, long-form video girlie@hpod16 hahaha, I'm not that much of a fan of short, vertical videos, too, but I still use Loops a couple of times a week. I never used TikTok, though, but I know Reels from Instagram and Shorts from YouTube. And as I advocate for the Fediverse, I know that many, particularly many young people like TikTok, so I guess Loops is important for bringing more of them into the Fediverse.

I had to use TikTok for work for a while, and I tell you it was a huge relief when I got to delete the app. The algorithm really gets under your skin, the app is addictive, and the short-form video style fries your brain. (there's even research on this now)
Even though loops doesn't have many of these features, just the fact that it reminds me a little of TikTok gave me PTSD from that time I was a social media manager in 2020 making TikToks
