@ghrasko Fair point, most people won't self-host, and that's fine. The goal was never "everyone should run a ThinkPad in their closet." But the 1st steps you mention? That's the real 80/20. Better DNS, no password reuse, a decent email provider. No server needed. And yes, we need more ethical providers in the EU. Informed users and good infrastructure actors go hand in hand. Plenty more to come in the blog, I'm going to talk about privacy-focused actors that care about your privacy in the future

@thelocalstack I absolutely support your ideas. Everyone should do whatever percentage hi/she is capable of. Part of that is switching to reliable providers, the other is to push legislation, politicians to force privacy supported laws.

I myself replaced a majority of the applications on my mobile. Surely, not 100%, but the applications are mostly open source and/or European ones falling under European privacy legislation. Also changed my laptop from Windows to Linux.

      Hello Mastodon πŸ‘‹

      I'm rogi.
      I have a 2014 ThinkPad. I run a blog with €5/month. Zero cloud.

I read privacy policies so you don't have to.

Last month: an AI had a 24KB psychological profile built from my conversations. Last week: my passport went through 17 US companies just to get a LinkedIn badge. Nobody mentioned that.

That's what I write about. Not paranoia, just what's actually in the documents.

@thelocalstack I just read your posts, not many but really interesting. Keep the good work. I want to introduce you our French GDPR celebrity @aeris. Very much aligned I think.
Also love the low tech, that's my project for this summer.

Thank you, really appreciate you taking the time to read. And great intro, I'll definitely check out @aeris work.
The low-tech project sounds fun, there's something freeing about constraints. Looking forward to seeing what you build this summer!
