    @verge my knee-jerk reaction was that it would be much better if they just required (all?) manufacturers to allow replacing the firmware, so people could use something like OpenWrt https://openwrt.org/ ... then I thought it through a little bit ๐Ÿค”

    I just wish these legislators would think about solutions other than bans or locked down commercial monopolies.

    Unfortunately, even requiring open, auditable, standards compliant software won't prevent hidden firmware or supply chain attacks ๐Ÿ™
