Formula 1 considering the cancellation of GPs in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

F1 - After the Japanese Grand Prix at the end of the month, Formula One risks remaining halted until early May. According to “Sky Sport Deutschland,” in light of the situation in the Middle East, the circus has decided to cancel the GPs scheduled in Bahrain (April 12) and Saudi Arabia (April 19).

Races that cannot be recovered given the tight calendar, with F1 restarting directly from Miami over the weekend of May 1-3 after Suzuka. Qatar and Abu Dhabi remain confirmed for the time being, scheduled for November 29 and December 6 respectively, which will close the season.

    Accelerated and Costly Decision
According to Bild, F1 had until March 20 to make a final decision, as beyond that date it would not have been possible to organize the transfer of personnel and materials on time, but the recent attacks suffered by Bahrain have accelerated the process. Furthermore, being a decision by F1, the organizers of the Bahrain Grand Prix will no longer have to pay the $40 million “hosting fee.”

Regarding Saudi Arabia, Jeddah was trying to maintain the GP until the last minute, offering to organize charter flights for teams and personnel, but without success given the logistical obstacles.

Despite canceling the two appointments, F1 would guarantee the minimum of 22 Grand Prix foreseen by the contracts for television rights.
