Come si sul dire: in tempo di guerra ogni dichiarazione va presa con le pinze. L’ultima prova di questo vecchio adagio arriva dal Pentagono che in un briefing riservato al Congresso degli Stati Uniti d’America, stando a quanto riporta la Reuters, ha detto molto chiaramente che “non c’era nessun segnale di un attacco imminente e preventivo” da parte dell’Iran contro gli Usa o i loro alleati.
Si tratta di parole che sbugiardano completamente il presidente americano Donald Trump. Il tycoon, infatti, da giorni sostiene che l’attacco statunitense contro l’Iran sia stato reso necessario come “risposta preventiva” ai possibili attacchi che Teheran avrebbero potuto scatenare per prendere di mira la gigantesca “armada” statunitense schierata nel Golfo, e per colpire Israele, Arabia Saudita e Emirati Arabi Uniti.
Nulla da eccepire, invece, riguardo alle altre motivazioni addottet dalla Casa Bianca per giustificare l’intervento ossia impedire all’Iran di sviluppare un’arma nucleare – con una minaccia che comunque per il Pentagono era ben lontana dal concretizzarsi -, e dal tentativo di mettere fine al programma missilistico di Teheran che con i suoi missili ballistici minaccia l’intero Medio Oriente.
Il nodo dell’intelligence
Secondo le fonti citate da Reuters, che hanno chiesto l’anonimato, anche l’affermazione di Trump secondo cui Teheran sarebbe stata “sulla buona strada” per colpire presto gli Stati Uniti con un missile balistico non troverebbe alcun riscontro nei rapporti dell’intelligence. Proprio per questo, sempre durante l’audizione al Congresso, i funzionari del Pentagono hanno parlato apertamente di “un’esagerazione”.

The latest evidence of this old adage comes from the Pentagon, which, according to Reuters, stated very clearly during a briefing reserved for the United States Congress that “there were no signs of an imminent and preemptive attack” by Iran against the US or its allies.

These are words that completely contradict US President Donald Trump. The tycoon has, for days, been claiming that the US attack against Iran was necessary as a “preventive response” to possible attacks that Tehran might have unleashed to target the giant “fleet” of US ships deployed in the Gulf, and to strike Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

Nothing to object to, however, regarding the other justifications offered by the White House to justify the intervention – namely, to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon – with a threat that, however, according to the Pentagon was far from materializing – and the attempt to end Tehran’s ballistic missile program, which, with its ballistic missiles, threatens the entire Middle East.

The intelligence knot

According to sources cited by Reuters, who requested anonymity, Trump’s assertion that Tehran was “on track” to strike the United States with a ballistic missile soon would find no support in intelligence reports. Precisely for this reason, during the hearing before the Congress, Pentagon officials openly spoke of an “exaggeration.”
