@skinnylatte god I miss good tacos. There's not much of a Mexican population in Vancouver, and thus also a sad lack of good tacos. I wonder if tacos are the best thing about America.

      3. Coast Starlight to Los Angeles

Fun fact: This train will travel through some of the most beautiful areas of the Pacific coast, and at least one rocket launch base

EDIT: adding prices as a record. This usually costs $48-120 depending on when you book it. I got it as part of my rail pass

@skinnylatte Coast Starlight is a bucket list train. After living on the circus train, I've run some of those rails, but some of the gorgeous bits the senior techs (fairly) claimed. If money and time weren't an issue, I'd like to go from NYC, to San Diego, via Chicago and Seattle. I'd get to check off Montana, Washington and Oregon in one trip, and go from the worst rails on the continent to the best. Still annoyed I slept through the announcement when we crossed the Great Salt Lake.

        5. Bus no 4 from downtown LA to the fashion district

        This was $1.75

Fun fact: if you take another bus or train within 2 hours on LA metro, the transfer is free. So going there and coming back can cost just $1.75

                        @skinnylatte ABQ is my vote!
I did a SNS -> LAX -> ABQ trip a few years ago using LAX as a provisioning stop both ways to visit JANM and Little Tokyo.

                                6. Riding the Southwest Chief to New Mexico (what a name)

It’s sunset soon but I’m pretty sure I’ll wake up to some incredible desert views. I’ve never been south or southwest

The cost of riding this train in coach is usually $78ish between LA and Albuquerque, with highest prices around 200+ if you book super late. But I’m riding it as part of my rail pass

Edit: forgot my Southwest Chief fun fact. This route (which runs LA to Chicago) is pretty much the modern version of the Super Chief. There used to be a San Francisco Chief that did San Francisco to Chicago, between 1954 and 1971

MARTA is fine and gets you to Decatur - which is fantastic for dining and a bit of nightlife. Also, highly recommend heading to Lindbergh MARTA station and then a bus or Uber to Fat Matts Rib Shack for BBQ ribs/chicken, beer and live blues.

@skinnylatte definitely deserving of a medal if you can spend much time in Atlanta without getting in a car.

(But it’s also probably our city with the greatest contrast between “in town” and the suburbs, so might be awesome.)

Multiple announcements about the importance of wearing shoes on the train..
