    1/ Announcement: So today being a news day I might as well announce that the team at TheCanadian.Social has officially taken ownership of https://journa.host and https://newsie.social. We have also moved these instances to our facilities in Canada. These are two important instances hosting a large portion of the fediverse's journalism accounts. We felt it important to keep them going as the previous stewards were considering shutting them down. #fediverse #fediadmin #journalists

    3/ I'd also like to particularly thank @quaff who spearheaded the technical move and managed to do so with minimal downtime. It was a feat of ops engineering and we're very luck to have him. #fediverse #fediadmin #journalism

      @mike happy to help Mike! Keeping these instances going is my small contribution to journalism and the fediverse. I'm really proud of you and our team for taking this on ❤️

        @mike WOW! This is big news and it sounds like really good news! I’m sure a lot of work behind the scenes to get everything moved. Any further details that you can share, please do. Here’s to strong journalism and a safe place to host it.

            @mike

            lol

            which journalists do you mean? the ones challenging the US or European governments on gaza and Iran?

            the ones who know about epstein and kept quiet?

            the ones who fail to mention aipac?

            no - mainstream journalists have done nothing worth preserving

            independent media however are doing well and are far more trustworthy - and they don't have big bosses threatening the use of AI to replace them

              @charlesdelavalleepoussin Jotnalists of every stripe are represented. However its not my job to choose which ones are "acceptable" to you. My job is to provide a safe harbour to anyone attempting to practice the craft whatever their motivation.

                  War of the waves: Media and resistance against authoritarian regimes

                  During WWII the BBC was actively engaged in fostering opposition to the German occupation throughout Europe. This column uses data on variations in radio signal strength during the war to analyse the role played by the BBC’s “Radio Londra” programme in civilian and partisan resistance against the Nazi-fascist regime. The findings suggest that BBC radio played a significant role in coordinating resistance activities against foreign occupation, but only a minor role in mobilising the civilian population against the fascist regime.
