    Apparently I'm now a smoke detector influencer. So:

    - Use them.

    - Good detectors are affordable. Don't buy crap.

    - Wired solutions with battery backup are best.

    - Connected solutions are good (one detector triggers all alarms).

    - Respect the service life advice.

    - Don't buy from stores with dodgy supply chains (Amazon, Wish, Shein etc.)

    - Each country has their own good brands. Buy what is "big" local and recommended by consumer orgs.

    - Linux is not the answer.

      @Pepijn when we moved into our house, we didn’t know how old the detectors were - so we changed them. We also wrote the installation date on them so we know how long they’ve been up.

      Great advice here!

        As long as systemd is replaced with OpenRC, and you choose a good distro and DE, you're fiiiinnneeee
