Today we launched https://code.overheid.nl: the NL government-wide code platform 🥳🥳
Code.overheid.nl is a pilot in which we are going to test @forgejo; an open source and sovereign alternative to GitHub/GitLab.
This is an initiative of @BZKopensource, in collaboration with our friends from team DAWO (SSC-ICT), developer.overheid.nl, and a number of participating gov organizations.

@tomootes from developer.overheid wrote a nice piece about it: https://developer.overheid.nl/blog/2026/04/24/we-gaan-samen-code-overheid-bouwen
@Gina Very cool, congratulations on the launch!

@Gina make a plan for what to do when AI crawlers hit and put it in the desk for emergency (though I hope it will sit there until infinity and never be used)…
…that's the reason I moved my Forgejo instance into my VPN… >10k req from unique IPs in half an hour basically brought it down… …all to relatively "expensive" paths… …Anubis caught none…

@Gina
Congratulations!
As someone who's more familiar with GitLab, how does Forgejo compare to the (open source) GitLab CE?
Edit: found https://forgejo.org/compare/ which partly answers this.

@developer

@xconde we did, but we didn't like that a. It was a non-European solution and b. That the licensing would become very expensive at a certain point.
