I'm disappointed that there aren't more people interested in the #fediverse simply because of what it is, as opposed to what "experience" it currently offers.

I dunno, I just find it inherently interesting that all of this is run by regular people free from the malignant influence of Big Tech.

@KentNavalesi because fediverse advertisers talk about technicality over experience.

That's what I'm saying, though. Why don't more people see the huge potential of the technical part?

"Technical" meaning only up to the point of "servers talking to each other."

@KentNavalesi My feeling has always been that it's just not "cool" to care about digital stuff. Social media, the internet... it doesn't matter what evil entity is behind it, as long as it works (and in the case of social media, connects you to the most people).
Pragmatic apathy, basically. #fediverse

I think it's a lot of things. Aversion to learning new things, resentment at the suggestion that they should learn new things . . . maybe some genuine confusion as to why anyone wouldn't just go along with the herd . . .
I don't know, but I've seen the blank stares firsthand, and there's definitely something that makes fediversians different from the rest.

@kentnavalesi@mstdn.social big tech aversion and sovereignty are less important factors for non-techies. Sad fact of life.
Most if not all of my friends and family have shrugged and given up because "what can we do".
