Due to Apple and Google/Alphabet we have gone backwards in the last 20 years.
I designed (& assembled with SW help from others) a pocket sized tablet running Debian, Thunderbird, Firefox, VLC etc with SD card, inset PCMCIA slot (so only aerial stick out), speaker, mic, touch screen, 3x 3.5mm (earphone, line in, mic). Prototype 4G modem. Geographical phone number. ISDN qualiity VOIP. Before the iPhone was sold in Ireland in 2007.
Choice of windows + stylus GUI or Tiles.

Sadly banks, such Revolut, are App only, no website and only on supported iOS/Android.
So the best alternate in the world is locked out by the Duopoly.
I can't even use my tablet sized laptop!

Need regulation that all Government/ Public services/Banking is also fully functional on any mobile Browser independent of OS. Mobile screens & browsers good enough last 10+ years.

@Gina @linuxfoundation PWAs are cross-platform and fairly easy to develop. They're an open standard and they do not require an app store. PWAs should be the primary app form. It's the only app form I'm using for my apps.
