@nateb the real question is whether I can eat a fruit with all these things and then drink a soda and it covers the fructose in both. Loophole? /hj

@jonah Tbh I forgot fructose was naturally occurring and just assumed they meant HFC.

I honestly already know processed sugar is like, the worst possible thing you could put in your body short of hard drugs. I'm the equivalent of that guy going "yeah I know cigarettes give me cancer but I've been smoking for 20 years and just given up. I know I'm addicted."

@jonah Of course, to my defense, people don't put fucking nicotine in like, every single thing you eat. So someone could conceivably quit cigarettes with a lot of hard work and discipline and then avoid it forever whereas I could quit sugar but it would still be SO easy to accidentally ingest some, or the temptation would be basically everywhere. Never accidentally smoked a cigarette or seen a pack for sale in a vending machine, ya know?

@nateb don't forget about the lies around sucralose and other zero calorie sweeteners too

I went down this path somewhere around 2012, never looked back. Sodas are such a stupid way to ingest calories anyway

@nateb once you take a break from them for a while they actually start to taste unpleasant. Did for me anyway. I drink a lot of spelling water instead

@feld What's weird is that I agree but somehow it still goes back to being normal. Like, 4 weeks without soda and you take one sip and go "ew, that's so acidic it burns my throat." And then two days later you're buying one anyways.

At least that's been my experience.

@nateb I've managed to finally get myself down to occasionally having it like during holidays. Juice is still something I struggle with though, which honestly I don't think is that much better, especially the diluted ones with extra sugar added to compensate.

@oliviablob Yeah, I've been doing a pretty good job of going all-in on diet sodas. I know those come with other concerns but tbh a major concern for me is weight control, so at least the diet sodas help with that.

Now I just need to cut back on beer and frappes. I honestly thought that working from home would make too lazy to go out and buy stuff like that, but I was wrong ๐Ÿ˜…
