@pikesley /r/Vibecoding is my guilty pleasure. It's like watching a bunch of people totally high on paint argue about existential questions

@tante I am trying hard to think of an analogy for any other industry. Maybe it’s like being an MD doctor and going to one of these healing crystal conferences.

They’re turning coding into teaching: a high-skill job that is super valuable to society, but a lot of people disrespect it and think they could do it themselves just as well.

@fsou I just came across this gem a few hours ago in my timeline that made me think of your guilty pleasures... ht @amiserabilist

"Whoever thinks NASA is really flying around the moon, I have a few questions. So, rockets use gas and fire, right? Or is it rocket fuel, whatever the hell they use, and fire? But doesn't fire need oxygen, and isn't there no oxygen in outer space? So, how would they use a rocket to fly around the moon, or even in 1972 when they supposedly landed on the moon, how did they leave the moon if there's no oxygen on the moon for the flame to work? Can someone help me make sense of this?"

@pikesley This reminds me that the other day I went on Reddit & a post from r/eth popped up. I’d forgotten I joined it back in the day. The OP was asking what to do with all his graphics cards that were now gathering dust.

@fsou @paco @tante @pikesley The American Physical Society has a wonderful collection of crank letters and the like. One of my favorite stories: An editor told Feynman he couldn't call them "tadpole diagrams" because that's too undignified. Feynman replied that that was fine. Just call them "sperm diagrams." “Tadpole" was hastily approved. I did not actually see the correspondence, so I can't vouch for the story's authenticity.
