@davidgerard I do this. I use a Sony DSC-RX100M5A. It has HDMI output, and you can disable all camera overlays on the HDMI output. I then run it through an Epiphan capture card https://www.epiphan.com/products/av-io-hd-plus/
Been using this setup for at least 5 years now (though the camera is a little older than that). Rock solid for me.

@davidgerard if you don’t mind an older (2016) camera, the Panasonic Lumix G series Micro 4/3rds cameras are famously very good video production cameras for their price. no idea what UK prices look like, but a Lumix G85 is about $380 gently used over here.

you’ll of course need a lens as well; almost everything within reason will adapt well to micro 4/3rds with a bit of a crop factor, so you can get some good prices on old cinema lenses that’ll work well, if you don’t mind zone focusing.

@davidgerard in general definitely look for something with clean (full quality and no UI overlay) HDMI out. you’d think most cameras would have it but it’s something manufacturers gatekeep their expensive models with. as far as I know all the Lumix G cameras past a certain vintage have it, so if you’d like something newer then that might be a good place to start looking.
