I just tried to find out what’s going on with US/Middle East right now & I can’t find anything that summarises what happened chronologically, or with the POV of someone who hasn’t been immersed in it for days. -

But the crucial thing with good communication IMO is remembering that people have different context to you.
The average person is not glued to the news.

My mental health is so much better since I started using social media just for entertainment day-to-day.
I still occasionally look up what’s going on in the news, but don’t need it thrust upon me 24/7. Especially when there’s fuck all you can do about it. And the big stuff finds me quickly anyway.

@mattgrayyes this is something I noticed when I stopped looking at the news.
I tend to find the things that truly matter to me will find their way to me. The few publications I check with any frequency all publish a couple of times a week at most.
It is frustrating trying to get any information on a current though. I’m often jumping to the sites of smaller publications from places like Jersey or the Isle of Man and treating it with the appropriate “this is a small island” mindset.

Oh fucking great idea. I forgot about this.

More often than not, I ONLY read headlines like 'Here's how the aftermath of [major development] will affect the economy' and I'm scratching my head going 'Wait, [major development] happened? I've been away from any news site for merely 12 hours' and it's hard to find an article about what has happened in the first place.
We need a website called 'summary', where all the initial events in the news are summarised and explained for people to have a news source to catch up.

I was surprised to see BBC News had a good clear summary of events last night.
I saw the Guardian live feed, and thought it unclear, so I looked at the BBC, expecting a polarized view, but was pleasantly surprised. I don't usually reach for BBC now, but found the Guardian experience odd.
I likely went through the same thought process as you.

@mattgrayyes honestly I tend to go to Wikipedia as they often have a good time line and description

@mattgrayyes I appreciate their "what to do if you're upset by the news" article near the top as well
