        1. Gaelic football is a form of football played in Ireland. It has some similarities to rugby and Aussie rules football.

        2. Crucially for the joke, GF at the highest level is played in an All-Ireland competition of county teams, including County Down.

        3. Newry is in County Down. Actually the east side of Newry is, and the west side, across the river, is in Armagh.
