It used to be an uncontroversial statement that being an ally of the USA (military or economic) was a strategic advantage, no matter your opinion of the USA itself. In 2026, being allied to the USA is increasingly seen as a strategic liability.
It’s difficult to see how US global influence can survive, beyond a few weak client states. They lost Europe over Ukraine, and they’re losing the Gulf over Iran. If they try Cuba they’ll lose the Americas too.
Everything this admin touches dies.
