"[Labour] came to genuinely think that their voters (and not just the grim inhabitants and owners of the UK's media) wanted them to mistreat immigrants, trans people, old people and so on.

"[Labour] came to genuinely think that their voters (and not just the grim inhabitants and owners of the UK's media) wanted them to mistreat immigrants, trans people, old people and so on. They spent two years in power actually doing those things and indicating they meant to do even more of it. And now they have staggered back from the absolutely obvious consequences of all of those choices in shock and dismay."

@PatrickOBeirne as I was born and live in the US, I understand very little of UK politics
but I thought that in the recent election, the anti immigrant party , N Farage's reform, did very well
which suggests that a maj of people in the UK want something - not quite clear what - "done" about immigrants

@PatrickOBeirne
Very interesting and I've thought this since the last elections when Labour inexplicably more or less continued the Conservative agenda.Conservatives have also destroyed themselves. Labour didn't win the last election, but Tories lost it.
I've said for many years that Nationalist can't easily win in Scotland, Wales and N.I., but the "English" / "Unionist" majority at Westminster can certainly lose the UK. Started with Thacher's poll tax.
Of course NI also demographics.

@PatrickOBeirne Are you telling me that if I run a well known specialty shop with loyal return customers, that it's NOT a good idea to clear my aisles and fill them with stuff people can easily get elsewhere?
