25% of all the new cars registered in Britain in February were pure battery electric — level pegging with the number of non-hybrid petrol cars. 4% were diesel powered. But apparently “nobody wants EVs” so presumably nobody wants petrol cars either.
Nearly half of all new cars are some flavour of hybrid, which is progress of sorts if those hybrids are getting the fuel economy claimed for the. Over time that’s got to have an effect on fuel demand. https://newautomotive.org/ecc

There are now over 2 million EVs on Britain’s roads (2,018,300). With around 30 million cars and vans in total that’s roughly 1 in 15. The growth is steady.

I think the more important metric to focus on is how well people can do their daily activities without having to use a car.
A car cost money to purchase maintain store. It cost money to the city. It cost money to the individual. Car tires produce, toxic, lethal foot. That’s independent of the engine system.
Car free environments are quieter, safer, healthier, less expensive and more economically vibrant. The cost in the return on investment is so much better than EV
