@djlink I don't see how this is possible. Is there going to be age verification on every docker instance? On the McDonald's ordering kiosk? On in-flight entertainment displays?

@hunterking people passing laws rarely understand the issue they are voting on

@djlink The law applies to the provider of the OS. For Linux, who is that? I mean, I am sorry for Redhat, but Ubuntu isn't going to care. Canonical doesn't even have an office in California.

@djlink And considering all the devices that use an OS, wildly impossible to do. That oscilloscope? Runs Windows CE. Your car’s infotainment system? Some version of Linux. Your TV? Probably an Android variant.
You can’t right a law to cover all use cases, and a one size fits all is impossible. I thought California would be better about this

Sure we can, follow China's footsteps here. They have this system pretty well down already. All that's missing is a national OS to keep things simple : )

Arguably a step in the right direction over sending every website your ID, although it shouldn't be age verification: As a parent, I should just be able to set what my kid should be able to see. Perhaps I'm fine with swears but don't want drugs...
Would it be possible to get around client-side filtering? Yes... but the same goes for all the Peter Thiel backed solutions too: You can always have someone else make you an account.
18/16 isn't some magic age where everyone above it can behave themselves and everyone below cant. Basing access to the internet on a date on someone's passport is dumb.
