There was some discussion at work about gender neutral language.

@CowMan @DekaBlack @isaactly_s we call them "fishers" in Canada, but this has more interesting energy!

@deborahh @CowMan @isaactly_s That's because in canada you know how to deal with fishes

-
@isaactly_s Who will be BEST FIGHTER at my wedding?
@helge @isaactly_s That uncle after 3 drinks
-
@isaactly_s Honestly, "garbagefighter" sounds pretty awesome. Way better than "garbage collector" or whatever. Anyway, that term's been coopted by the software industry.
@StarkRG @isaactly_s "Pickup artists and garbage men should switch names."

@DekaBlack @CowMan @isaactly_s yes, if you are polite to them you don't have to fight them! (I think. Not an expert, just a Canuck

@ratsnakegames @isaactly_s Are you implying that only the language with the largest userbase is relevant?
@xocolatli @ratsnakegames @isaactly_s and yet you participate in the society, curious!

@virtulis @ratsnakegames @isaactly_s I never claimed to need to speak gender neutrally, but for people who care, there are languages that do not have pervasive gender recognition in their structure ... Surprisingly, many of them aren't fictitious

@xocolatli @ratsnakegames @isaactly_s and English is very much one of them? Other than the pronouns, which I understand most people in fact prefer to have, and job titles, which are so trivial to fix we're literally in a thread for a meme about it.

@xocolatli @virtulis @isaactly_s ok so you are saying we shouldn't make minor changes to English in order to remove its gendered elements but instead just all learn Algonqian because that is way easier.
Do you not realize how stupid that sounds?
Also, if you do not care about gender neutral speech, just keep out of conversations about it. Nobody likes a concern troll.

There was some discussion at work about gender neutral language. I told them I always go by this (old) guide.
@isaactly_s I think it should be mailwrangler and garbagewrangler.

@DekaBlack @CowMan @isaactly_s you'd get a sore throat, though, from all the apologising. 🤭

@deborahh @CowMan @isaactly_s That downside is why there's still fishfighters

@StarkRG @isaactly_s, ”bin man” (or “bin fighter”).

@isaactly_s@mas.to Man = Fighterlicker or Lickerfighter?

@isaactly_s The Australian approach of sticking "-ie" on the end of any job (or indeed sometimes it seems anything resembling a noun) has lots of merits.
However Spokesperson clearly should be cycle wheelwright.

@virtulis @ratsnakegames @isaactly_s English absolutely isn't gender neutral and never was
By the way, it is also an Indo-European language, like every language in Europe except for Basque, which was of course my point

@isaactly_s Steward/Stewardess -> Stewfighter

@xocolatli @ratsnakegames @isaactly_s and yet I don't need to know the gender of your ass to see that you're speaking out of it.
If you are so eager to appear clever on the internet, perhaps try fewer obviously incorrect absolute statements

@lp0_on_fire @isaactly_s
How about "Rubbish Wrangler"? (alliteration is always good)
"Bin Tipper"?
