Over one million citizens signed the petition to ban conversion practices.

    We hear you.

    And our reply is firm:
    ✋🏼These interventions must end.

Being LGBTIQ+ doesn’t need to be cured.

Yet, conversion practices, relying on the false idea that LGBTIQ+ people are sick, still exist and are causing long-lasting psychological and physical damage.

    @EUCommission
I think this poster has a big issue. The sentence “Conversion practices are not a cure”, implies that there is a cure, but this one is not one. And having a cure implies that you are talking about an illness. So even by using such a sentence, you are giving in to the idea of “it” being an illness, which I suppose your intentions are the opposite.

@EUCommission Well, is it already banned and the ban enforced?
If not, you are still letting us all down!

BTW, maybe get a bit informed on the language to use!

@EUCommission ban them for minors, fine. Let adults do what they want to do though. Don't try to limit my freedom where this freedom is not affecting others in any negative way.

@AngelaScholder @EUCommission They can't enforce it, that is the weakness of the commission. Only the member states can enforce it. But the commission will write a formal recommendation to the member states to adopt such a ban. Its sad, that even that recommendation is still in the future, considering how much even just the idea behind such "therapies" (Better: Torture) violates the human rights in all EU countries.

@EUCommission should have said: lgbtq+ not a disease. Next line: ban all "cures". Saying conversion therapy is not a cure one might imply that other things are. Sloppy work again

It's a harmful practice that is medically unsound and deeply harmful to those who undergo it. Do you think adults should be able to sign up for a lobotomy, too?

@DavidNorth @EUCommission I don't wish to have any freedom to force other people to do or not do anything. At the same time, I don't want my freedom to cause harm to myself taken away.

@DavidNorth @EUCommission practically correct - I'm not interested in a conversion therapy, and I agree it's a harmful concept. It's more about the principle. I really don't like it when a government decides what is good or bad for me.

Hello @Njord! Thank you for explaining, @PhoenixWright!

We also included a definition of these practices in our response:
Conversion practices on LGBTQ+ people are comprised of a diverse group of mental and physical manipulations, psycho-hypnotic indoctrinations (usually presented to public as “therapies”), medical and homoeopathic interventions, exorcism and other treatments enacted with the aim of altering Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression.

@EUCommission should have said: lgbtq+ not a disease. Next line: ban all "cures". Saying conversion therapy is not a cure one might imply that other things are. Sloppy work again

                                      Hello @joyandsadness
Being LGBTIQ+ doesn’t need to be cured.
We also stated this in the text above the poster, but we thank you for your feedback on our visual communication. We will bear it in mind for the future.

                                        Hello @urwumpe, @AngelaScholder!
We considered several options, and, although a Recommendation is a non-binding legal act, it is the best and most effective instrument to achieve the objective of the ECI. That’s because banning conversion practices by means of criminal law is a competence of EU countries. Some countries have already done so. We are committed to supporting EU countries who are in the process of banning conversion practices and encourage others who wish to start the process. 🌈

Your rights are an inseparable part of a true Union of Equality.

                                          We won’t let you down.🏳️‍🌈

@EUCommission diversity is what makes humanity strong. Monoculture is prone to diseases. Fascism wants monoculture.
