Actually most of these wars make a point of killing women and children. I'm not surprised to see schoolgirls killed. It's a biological thing that if you take out the women and babies, it's harder to breed and raise fighting men.
You can kill loads of men without making the slightest difference to the enemies ability to breed a fighting population, but once the women are gone, so is the future of an enemy army. It's harsh. -
