Would you like to hear a story? Let me tell you a story. I was just now walking home from the doctor and I saw a carpenter bee on the middle of the sidewalk not moving. I scooped it up onto a leaf, it was extremely sluggish, could barely move. It was 95 degrees yesterday, is currently 56.

@990000 The problem appears to be the precipitous drop in temperature, as warming it up seemed to help.

@davep so fascinating, but I guess also not surprising? I wonder if it's just as bad going in the other direction, if the temperature suddenly spikes.

@990000 I've been doing this with some (bumble and other) bees recently!
we had a slight cold spell in the netherlands after a warm start of spring and I've seen them on the ground in many places, I have some flowers in my garden luckily, but the insects definitely had a poor start of this summer because of it
