Early this week, I'm finally going to do something I've long wanted to do: apply a lovely semipermanent purple hair color at home. This is another aspect of my gender identity affirmation journey.

My question is: I have short blonde/greying hair on the sides of my head. When I used to get highlights/lowlights at salons, it often turned into leopard spots or didn't last long. Is there actually value in coloring the shorter hair, or is it best to just color the longer hair? Hoping to make it look cute.

@AncTreat5358 Uuuhh, i am curious, will you show us the colour?

I wish for myself to have white hair, with a purple part in it, but having a lot of grey hair my hairstylist denied to dye them white. It will stress my hair to much.

@Nukumori I got the Arctic Fox Purple AF. A local barista had this color a week ago, and it looked amazing and just what I hope for!

Thanks for sharing that about grey hair. I understand it's a different structure from non-grey hair, and is often more coarse.

@AncTreat5358 my greys take my blue colour much more lightly but I just dye everything because it's easier (and the rest for me has been dyed black, I mix things up to make it complicated haha 😁). Purple and light purple will look just as fab as purple and grey imho, so I don't think it matters! Enjoy 🀩

@GinaT86 Sweet! Thank you, Gina. Glad to hear your experience and what I can look forward to. Based on this, I think I’ll do it all. Two shades of purple sounds interesting.

Your blue and black look sounds amazing! 😎

@AncTreat5358 I usually dye everything but I'm lazy and usually do my whole head.

Keep in mind semi perm like Arctic Fox washes out with every wash. If you want it to last longer, try to shampoo as little as possible (once or twice a week).

@trinitybat Is there a permanent version of a color like what I got that can be done at home, by chance?

@AncTreat5358 sadly no. Pravana used to make some but I don't think they do anymore. That's been a quest of mine for like 20 years lol.
