Word on the ground: FBI •is• collaborating with ICE in South Minneapolis today.
Things have been pretty quiet in my Minneapolis channels for the last few hours. Looks like this morning was a coordinated sudden strike. Everyone is now vigilant for the next thing, but we don’t know if it’s coming in an hour or a week or a month.

I feel like I should just say that the Somali folks in my neighborhood are cool, and their kids go to school with mine, and the kids are hilarious and sweet and rambunctious and full of kid-ness just like…you know…kids, and sambusas are yummy, and most Somali restaurants serve spaghetti (because of Italian colonial history, mostly straight-up Italian style but with a subtle Somali twist), and I’m glad my Somali neighbors are my neighbors, and ICE can GTFO now and forever, please and thank you.

Come try some!Your reaction will likely be something along the lines of, “Yup, that’s spaghetti! …huh, except, is there some unusual seasoning in there? There is, isn’t there? I can’t quite place it.”
I also recommend trying a nice Somali chicken suqaar.

There’s a few decent Italian places here if you seek them out, but all the ones I know are in the Northern Italian mode. Not sure you’re going to find Jersey Italian to suit here! At least the Somali pasta is clearly a different thing.

@inthehands I’m only sorta kidding. I probably wouldn’t seek out Italian in Minneapolis, but I’ve had good sushi in Moscow and great pizza in Dusseldorf, so who the hell knows?
We do have a pretty sizable South Asian community a bit north of me that I need to get into more. They have some ragers I’m told. Foodiepalooza.

I believe Hamdi and Sanag both have Somali pasta, and very different types! Do call to check prayer times if you can before going (or just be ready to hang out nearby for a while). -
