to all people running #Mastodon on #FreeBSD. After my Jail Update from 14.3 to 15 my mastodon instance stopped working with some strange ssl cert verification error in sidekick. I couldnt solve it so i rolled back the snapshot. Any one who saw similar stuff and could solve it? @stefano @Larvitz maybe?

@hbauer @stefano i upgraded from 14.3-RELEASE to 15.0-RELEASE and didn't encounter such an issue. Might wanna share a little bit more? (Error message, part of logfile etc.)?

You can also contact me on Matrix if you like (English or German): https://matrix.to/#/@larvitz:fedora.im

@Larvitz @stefano like this. https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/37455 I dont have any logs since I downgraded. But good to know that its only "a personal" problem that other didnt had. Over the weekend I do a jail clone and an ugrade.

@hbauer I think, I might know the problem. Did you use Node.JS version 24.x? I had issues getting that to work and downgraded to Node v22 in the Jail:

        mastodon@mastodonsidekiq:~/live $ pkg info | grep node
node22-22.21.1 V8 JavaScript for client and server
yarn-node22-1.22.19_1 Package manager for node, alternative to npm

FreeBSD offers both, Node 24 (default) but also older Node 22 (package: node22)

@hbauer That wasn't working for me either. I deinstalled node24 and installed node22 (FreeBSD 15 has both)

@Larvitz ok, so my todo for the week end is.
              - clone jail
              - downgrade to node 22
              - upgrade jail

              I will report the results
              🙂

@hbauer I am too afraid to test Node24 again. We have ~200 active users on the instance and I've gotten rather careful with experiments there..

@Larvitz maybe we should create a matrix space where we share our current configuration and uprade results. The mastodon in freebsd jails communities does not seemt to big

@Larvitz @hbauer that's the reason why I have two installations: I test on the "secondary" one before upgrading the main one. If everything is fine, I switch all the traffic to the secondary one and upgrade the first one, too.
