@Aoi_X_Kaizaki I agree, and honestly they should just go back to the old mode, or at least make it easy for all users to go back to the old mode.

We plan to disable the "live feeds" of the local and federated timelines on mastodon.social within in the next couple of weeks. They are already disabled on mastodon.online. While these feeds can be useful on smaller, topical or regional servers, they have limited use on larger servers like ours.

The live feeds present all content on the server immediately and essentially pre-moderation, which presents a particularly poor experience to new users finding the fediverse for the first time.

@staff I miss Live Feeds. That is how I populated my Home Feed by scrolling Live Feeds for users in the other federated timelines that I share interest with.

@staff I disagree with this entirely. You need to know what tags to look for to even guess if they exist. Getting to see items that people post in the wild helps people decide who’s worth following and better yet seeing everything and everyone out there on the fediverse.

I really hope you backtrack on this and if you don’t really hope you don’t disable it for any other instances that want to keep using it.

          Really really disappointed…..

@staff but I liked the sheer mass of everything in one place all at once, that way I didn't have to follow anything in particular.

@64bithero Search is not limited to hashtags, and can help you find things to follow. Note that these feeds as seen from here likely differ significantly from feeds you see on your instance.

We recognize these feeds are useful on smaller servers, they are just not particularly useful on ours.

@staff Large, unmoderated-signup servers have limited use* to the Fediverse.

Lots of your users have replied saying they are and they use them.

Who knows better, you, or your users?

Move to a better instance, that doesn't gatekeep how you use it.

@staff These views were optional. New users could ignore them if they wanted.
I'd like both the local and global views restored for me, if possible.

I‌ relied on the serendipity these views availed as a window to the Fediverse, allowing the discovery of new people, interests that I‌ couldn't search for because I probably don't know about; ones that are not necessarily trending.

I would have understood a scaling justification, though.
