listening to podcasts again, and that put me on catching up with @latenightlinux . i was just listening to episode 349 from september 2025, and in it, @degville was talking about the keyboard he was using on his pixel 9 pro* fold. i wanted to make sure this (a GPLv3 keyboard that i've used on a galaxy tab to some success) got its time in the sun. unsure of how it would work for a foldy, but i know that it's highly configurable and i've gotten along well with it in many use cases
here's the fdroid link for it: https://f-droid.org/packages/helium314.keyboard/

@edboythinks @latenightlinux Yeah, I've been using that as well (after finding out that Futo are kinda shady). I wonder if there ever will be a keyboard where you can search emojis, though. It seems like such a no-brainer but apparently people love scrolling through the (nonsensically ordered lists) endlessly (or don't use emoji

)@jfml @latenightlinux ALRIGHT i've been digging around in the settings for heliboard, and there is currently implemented support for something approaching emoji search by prefacing your text with a : colon, not unlike what i use when shitposting on mastodon. it's a toggle switch in the heliboard settings called "Inline emoji search". you enable that and it will show a popup to go download an emoji dictionary from a repo on codeberg, after which you install the dictionary on the keyboard itself by navigating to Dictionaries -> "Add dictionary from file" inside the heliboard settings app
tl;dr - looks like they have emoji search
