I've always wanted to make a quilt honoring the lives lost in the Triangle Shirtwaist fire, but I could never have done anything as good as what Helen Geglio has done here.

@inarticulatequilter If you want a weird story that might inspire you for one: one of my great-grandmothers worked there. The week (or maybe day?) before she stabbed a needle into her hand really badly. To the point where even though they needed the money my great-grandfather made her stay home. She wasn't there the day of the fire because she was already injured on the job.

Oh, my! This is so good! The lace and cotton scraps and the translucent shirtwaist threads seem to be fluttering away in the hot draft of the fire, blowing from the flaming windows, falling towards the viewer, a reminder of the women who fell like leaves. That's throat-catching art that grabs the mind and heart to make us understand! -

And it’s one of those pieces that the more you look at it, the more symbolism becomes apparent. It’s masterful

@inarticulatequilter I loved seeing this quilt, but I still think if a story moves you - make art about it. Every piece enriches the story.
