The design of their processes for the user have also become cluttered, by adding unnecessary extra steps. To wit: when I click “edit” on a phone contact, I now get a little pop-up that says “edit this contact“ and I have to press that in order to actually make the edit. Why are there two steps to pressing edit? No other options are offered in the second step, so what’s the point?

Further, today I saw this at the top of my phone. What is that icon about? It’s not described on this page: https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/learn-the-meaning-of-iphone-status-icons-iphef7bb57dc/ios
It looks like a little computer monitor. No computers in the house were awake.
