We are altering the very #climate of the planet in a way that's dangerous for our own survival and the stability of our ecosystems. With only a few exceptions, our politicians are not only looking the other way but actively making the problem worse.@petergleick Agree - and Resistance begins with naming things clearly.
Denial is not debate.
Nationalism is not love.
Scapegoating is not leadership.
Propaganda is not truth.
And sacrificing the future for power is not politics - it is betrayal.
There are no better people by birth, nation, race, or identity. There are only people willing to see clearly, act responsibly, and defend rules based on evidence. But the first act of resistance is still the hardest one: Refuse the lie!

@petergleick We have such a politician in Germany. Formerly enployed by the fossil fuel industry, she was working in government already years ago when Germany killed off its solar industry. Now she‘s the secretary for economy/energy and every week there’s news about how she‘s building LNG powerplants while harming renewables. She actually said that the business case for renewables needs to be made worse.
But people voted her party into office so it’s Germans who are at fault. #ReicheRücktritt@compfu @petergleick hey, we had a similar guy in our previous right-wing government in Spain. Industry Ministry, he stalled solar development, in Spain! (I remember a circa-2018 comparison, Germany and most of EU has more solar than Spain). All because fossil industry influence (some would say bribery), of course.
Once the government changed and repealed that law, solar (and wind) has growth to the point that we are less vulnerable* to Hormuz-like events.
* Nevertheless, electrical companies greed has lead to an unbalance in grid investment and therefore resilience, thus the 1-year-ago blackout. -

So who is voting green?
Politicians are not the problem. -

But what if the biggest source of the problem is ungovernable by constitutions, dictators and even laws of nature?

#politicians suck: they are not shutting down the cruel and polluting animal factories.
however, most people refuse to stop eating #animals, despite it being the easiest and most impactful individual action you can take.🧼 when every meal most of us put on our plates is made of #flesh and #breastmilk, it's too easy to wash that bloody guilt of our hands by pointing to politicians.
take responsibility and #govegan now, because politics is too important to be left for the politicians.💢🐷 ANGRY PIG - The Liberation Pledge Map of Vegan Only Places

I know, that's a very nihilistic viewpoint, but can you really count humans as a net positive to the ecosphere?

@petergleick We’ve known about the climate crisis for decades. And I hope I don’t need to explain why politicians – all politicians – are forced to act this way. That’s why it’s pointless to believe that swapping one politician for another would make any difference. We’d have to replace the political system – that is, capitalism – on a global scale. Which isn’t possible.
>"We’d have to replace the political system – that is, capitalism – on a global scale. Which isn’t possible."
Another perspective is that the underlying political/economic system is doomed by its own un-sustainability. Like geologic scale evolution, it will inevitability play itself out.
Covid-19 showed us that the global neo-liberal order is the pathogen of the planet.
The beauty of human life is our freedom to rationally identify and choose between self-interest and the collective good, by understanding that it is in our personal best long term interest to select for the common good.
IF we identify as loving beings expressing the creative forces which generated our biosphere and through that our own being.
