    Following on from the “raw milk” trend, I wonder if any other inadvisable things from the past will catch on. Like lead poisoning.

    Add some laudanum to your diet, our research recommends it if you want a plum bum

    @mattgrayyes what's the point of brushing your teeth if your toothpaste *doesn't* have radium, anyway?

      @mattgrayyes use arsenic in your mint drops, it adds a beautiful green colour! As Sir PTerry wrote, "they are to die for! (or maybe of, the handwriting is unclear)"

          @kuriko@wetdry.world @mattgrayyes@chaos.social A fun* fact: Thomas Midgley Jr, who played a key role in the development of leaded petrol, then went on to create some of the first CFCs. It's been posited that he may be the single organism in history to cause the most environmental harm. After contracting polio, he designed a series of ropes to lift himself out of bed which he got entangled in and died.

            @mattgrayyes I swear one of our far-right parties had "legalise asbestos" on elction posters, can't find it because they've chosen a common enough political word for their name

            instead, there's a national chain called Pound Bakery, who's logo on all their shops is "Pb"

            @patterfloof @mattgrayyes I remember seeing a full page ad in a magazine back in the mid seventies, from the associated octel corporation advocating leaded petrol and various other products on the grounds that leaded fuels helped us win WW2. So we should continue using it out of gratitude for saving us from Hitler I guess.

              @mattgrayyes@chaos.social If you've played "Thank Goodness You're Here", there's a street preacher saying we should bring back asbestos. I think it's a parody of the anti-vax street preachers who are still somewhat prevalent

                    @kuriko @mattgrayyes ah, lead. It's in my coffee 😛

                    Old house, so some of the last bits of pipe into the house are lead, but water board puts some additive in the water to help
