@ai6yr @th Good grief. I'm gonna be depressed for the rest of the day. Jail breaking home appliances, like a washing machine, is a thing, let alone the subject of a talk at a conference? Why would anyone need anything more than a mechanical cycle selector switch on a washer? πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«

@elaterite @ai6yr @th Imagine my horror at discovering that the lithium battery pack for my Husqvarna chainsaw has firmware private-key encryption on its comms with the charger. Talk about vendor lockin.

@phil_stevens @elaterite @ai6yr @th Thats where I'm hoping Canada finally says fuck it and rescinds their law making it illegal to reverse engineer encryption. Be a whole lot of Americans willing to buy any circumvention products so we can be free to repair our own damn stuff.
