    @dansup

    I'm not that interested in a bridge to the ICE account on Bsky, and I don't care if we should see them as competition or not - I just hate ICE and everyone that facilitates them.

    I agree not avoiding bluesky.

    What I enjoy the most about mastodon is my ability to say 'no.'

      The fediverse, ATProto/Bluesky and Nostr are not competitors.

      The real competitors (Meta, X, YouTube) probably love to see such division in us.

      Let's remember who we're really up against, and stop trying to compete with other open platforms and protocols.

      Use that energy to convince people to leave the real competitors and join us.

      Thanks to @anewsocial, we have a universal bridge to the future of a open social web.

            @dansup No doubt, but Metaโ€™s move toward ActivityPub still seems like a positive step (though we shouldnโ€™t forget all the harm Meta represents). Ideally, in my view, all social networks should use ActivityPub, just as all email uses the SMTP protocol.

            @df @dansup i hope i'm wrong, but i only see meta's move towards federation as a form of embrace, extended, extinguish.
            they won't control fedi, but they might be able to have enough control that self-hosting isn't worth it.
            similar to how google and microsoft control the mail ecosystem. anyone who's ever hosted their own mail server knows how much of a pain in the ass it is dealing with blacklists and being marked as spam even when you do everything right.
            i will never not see meta as hostile.

              I saw this post on nostr through the mostr bridge but had to dust off an old mastodon account to be able to reply to it.

              I agree bridges are the way to go but damn is it hard to build a working one.

                Does it make it a bad tech?
                It seems to me that crypto design and features (like key pairs) bring a lot of upsides for open networks.
                By the way, the public there is much more diverse than cryptobros who occupy the surface.

                  @Grutjes @anewsocial TruthSocial, aka Trumps social network is literally mastodon.

                  But thanks to Mastodon, you can limit which servers you block.

                  Isn't that something?

                  Mastodon / Fediverse is great in that respect. Bsky is not.

                    @dansup @anewsocial have to disagree on Bluesky - ATProto is open only on paper. In reality, the network is way too centralized on servers under the control of a company with VC funding. They will eventually demand a return on their investment, a process which always leads to enshittification.

                    The only networks we should be trusting are those which are community funded and operated.

                      @dansup
                      If you consider that the battle is between centralized networks and decentralized networks, then know this....

                      #Bluesky remains centralized, despite its claims that it will be decentralized some time in the future (a promise they have yet to fulfill). Because of this, Bluesky is a competitor of the #ActivityPub protocol (used by #Mastodon), which is decentralized.

                      Bluesky was begun within the Twitter Corporation, so will they actually ever become decentralized?

                        @dansup @anewsocial a little comment: ActivityPub and Nostr are truly free and empowering, but separated by politics. ATProto is free on paper, but realistically is centralised.
                        I wish ActivityPub and Nostr would just work on the tech and collaborate more. ActivityPub Nomadic Identities are just Nostr with extra-steps. Letโ€™s work together!
