This is why people become N+1 bike owners, isn't it? So they always have a spare...

@yantor3d Yes. Somebody asked me if I had so many bikes because I liked to work on them. WHAT ?!?!?
No, so I am more likely to have one that works 😛

@yantor3d basically this. For me it was because I got too much km on my main bike so I wanted something just for fun and shorter rides. So I bought recumbent bike! The most unusual fun you can have - just different enough from normal bike but not too difficult to learn to ride it.

@yantor3d also the wear is suddenly halved so you don't have to do much maintenance. If you do some maintenance once per 3 months, now you do it only twice per year but on 2 bikes simultaneously (it usually saves time and effort).

@geonz my problem is I would feel bad about not using it, and I wouldn't want to prefer one over the other, so I would need to get the exact same bike with the exact same accessories and alternate which one I ride.

@yantor3d Oh, not an issue for me. I find when I get on a different bike I think "OH!!! I LOVE HOW THIS BIKE FEELS!!!" ... the 1968 Schwinn 1-speed is so retro (and its one gear is huge)... the Transport is lower almost a step-through but friendly geometry.... teh folder is cute and peppy feeling... the FX is FAST AND LIGHT...
.... and the Xtracycle is the MAIN BIKE.

@yantor3d yep, so I can still around while one is fixed.

You can also diversify for weather, cargo, and terrain. A nice light bike for long rides, something bulkier for shopping, a winter bike I don’t have to swap tires on, etc.
