One thing that makes me very happy about the Gorton & Denton by-election result is it shows that claiming you have to vote tactically for Labour if you want to keep Reform out is bollocks.

If you want to keep Reform out, then the message is clear: vote Green. That way you even get a party with policies that are different from Reform.

@statsguy
> That way you even get a party with policies that are different from Reform.rather the point, i feel. not much use voting for a party with the same policies as the one you are trying to keep out…

@statsguy This is a lesson America desperately needs to learn.

@statsguy Err… I mean, I'm favouriting the post, but we must still factor in the "electoral profile" of our constituency, right?
For instance, mine – https://electionresults.parliament.uk/constituency-areas/927/elections – I read as a "two-way marginal between Lib Dem and Conservative (with Labour having made a probably brief rush in 2024)".
Voting Green here – although they may be my pick under STV, if Lisa Smart wasn't standing, and I voted and got Green in our last (just for now, pls) EU elections under D'Hondt – surely wouldn't cut it.

@miblo Oh yes, for sure. But I think that might be quite hard to do at the next election. We found at the last one that there was almost no such thing as a safe Tory seat, and next time we may find there's no such thing as a safe Labour seat either.
I'm sure there will be some seats where a tactical vote for LD would make some sort of sense, but it may not be all that easy to predict which ones they will be.
