What do the Mystery Years hold.

Evening all, and happy new month.

This edition of #TOTP went out in the week when London councils mooted a £5 per day charge to drive in the city centre, British Rail re-opened the Thameslink tunnel south of Farringdon, and Luton won the League Cup.

"On the Waterfront" debuted, and suddenly "The Flashing Blade" was interesting. On Radio 1, the Janice Long mid-evening slot was filled by Liz Kershaw, ensuring the slot will be cancelled by the autumn.

Hosts are Time Lord Gary Davies and Nicky Campbell.

Oh gawds, can we have Lou Bega again?

"Let's all chant" - Mick and Pat

Two radio presenters with a single in aid of their charity appeal Help A London Junkie.

Mick Brown (former "BMX Beat" host) and Pat Sharp (former #TOTP host) stay behind their decks and leave the dancing to the professionals.

        Then they don't.

As auspicious starts go, this isn't.

"The payback mix" - James Brown

Very much of its time, very much appealing to the sort of people who like chopped up bits of funk and soul in a megamix format.

This hasn't aged well, perhaps it wasn't much cop to begin with.

            "Perfect" - Fairground Attraction

Eddi Reader gavottes about in a long grey mac, while her backing band play strange instruments.

"Perfect" is a joyful listen, bright and breezy and fresh, the perfect antidote to crap dad dancing and hacked-up old records. Rising up the charts like a knife through butter.

Nicky alludes to one of Fairground Attraction having been on #TOTP before. Eddi was a backing singer with The Eurythmics.

              Breakers!
"Piano in the dark" - Brenda Russell, a soul tune of great quality, performed as café jazz. Could've heard more.

"Out of reach" - The Primitives, driving a fast car on Pendine Sands. A decade too early for Britpop.

"I gave it up when i fell in love" - Luther Vandross, noodling around in his studio.

"Walk away" - Joyce Sims, who didn't want to leave her piano.

"I want you back" - Bananarama

It's the usual Bananarama knockabout stuff, energetic armology, lots of backing dancers.

Basically, anything to take away from the fact that the 'nanas cannot sing as well as (say) Eddi Reader, and can't really mime either.

But they always put on a good show, especially now that the handheld camera can get right close and personal with Sara.

                #TOTP #Bananarama
