It's almost as if they don't listen to, or don't understand, The Green Party and specifically on this occasion, #hannahspencer

@Geri I see the green's win here as a strongly affirmative vote in favor of a candidate and party in closer alignment to the policies people want across a wide number of issues and not simply a vote against reform. Labour on the other hand WAS elected as a rejection of the right, and hasn't done nearly enough to repudiate the right's policies, and has instead moved rightward on any number of issues, making the same mistake as the Democrats in the US.
@Geri If Labour had any ability to be introspective about their failures, they would realize that military and social assistance to Israel has been massively unpopular, that their actions against transgender individuals are unpopular, that their furtherance of the end of privacy and building of a surveillance state infrastructure is unpopular, that their arrest and vigorous prosecution on terrorism offenses of people sitting and holding signs is unpopular. I could go on for toot after toot...

@Geri Some of it is just everyone enjoying seeing fartage getting (metaphoricaly) kicked in the goolies

@Geri But the long and short of it is that the people of the UK do not want the sort of government that Labour has shown to be over their course of their supremacy in Westminster. I don't know if this by-election kills Starmer, or if it will take the forthcoming elections for the national assemblies to do it, but right now I see a party whose leader is more concerned with fending off political challenges from within than in adopting policies more in line with the desires of the electorate.

@Geri the problem is the smaller parties get drowned out by the noise and hysteria around the other parties. Let's hope the green tide continues and the don't buckle unlike Labour's promises did.

@Geri I expect Labour to fold up in about the manner as the Conservatives. They'll continue to shamble on in much the same way and forward candidates for office and that will be a drag on the Greens, for I think there's a higher percentage of people in the UK who will continue to reflexively vote Labour out of lifetime habit than with the conservatives, but I think if the Greens manage to find, field and support good candidates and adapt to being a much larger party, their future is bright.

@Geri The polls and many politicians are underestimate voters intelligence and understanding. Not helped by bland media assumptions and a presumption that the majority will buy the Right Wing message of hate and intolerance. I’m delighted the people of Gorton & Denton voted for something so much better. It should be a wake up call to media and to politicians that voters are not all compliant sheeple. Starmer in big trouble today. And you have a trot down the street to undertake!!!

@Geri although I agree with you regarding the sentiment of voters to be fair Zack's twitter feed over the last couple weeks, which I follow as a reposting bot from here, did over do the keep Reform out message relative other messages, which irritated me. An absolutely wonderful result nevertheless.

@Geri The funny thing is all the talk about how Labour would have won if they'd only brought in Andy Burnham. If your party has grown so unpopular that to win a seat you've held for nearly a century you need to parachute in a candidate, then you're just underscoring how unrepresentative your party has become of the interests and concerns of the people who live there.
