Hello, bird-savvy people of Mastodon! Could anyone help me identify this bird at about the seventh second of this recording? I don't want to install an app to do that, and I also think asking humans once in a while is nice.

@Sarah111well Hmm I'm not sure, is it maybe because of the other birds in the recording? There are lots of seagulls around here, but I've never heard that sort of honk from them. I've only heard this bird this year, and it started probably a month ago. Do you have any other ideas on how I could search for it?

@isomoth It isnt because of the other birds - it identified them too. I find Merlin reliable, its tellng me that a Common Gull is unlikely where I live ๐Ÿ˜‚ . Maybe its just that your usual gulls are not Common Gulls.

@Sarah111well I see! Hmm. I tried recording the bird again, this time without any other birds around. Just curious, does it report a Common Gull this time?

@Sarah111well Nice, thank you for sharing this! I'll take a look. And also, for checking the recordings with Merlin. I ended up downloading the app and recording the bird in a quieter environment, and it said "no suggestions" ๐Ÿค” I also listened all of the birds that the app suggested for my location (including all gulls) without success. I'll try to check the website and see if I come across something...
