@carnage4life LLMs are not the path to sentience. Completely confident.

@carnage4life nice, the 100% confidence interval graph

@carnage4life I like those odds

@carnage4life What about the scenario where GDP-optimized AIs boost it to infinity simply by paying each other relentlessly?

@carnage4life based on that chart, the ‘AI boosted growth’ path is a perfect continuation of historic trends without AI, suggesting that AI makes no difference at all

@Talia @carnage4life Not necessarily. Growth could stop for some other reason, while AI push it up to continue a historical trend — dynamically stable, rather than making no difference. I’m not saying that’s what I believe, just that it’s a possibility.

@carnage4life What a pointless chart, using a pointless Y axis.
If everything were available abundantly, price would go down.... which show the stupidity of measuring progress by GDP. -

@carnage4life what a ridiculous chart. 1. where is the „AI boost“ in the AI-boosted trend continuation? Meaningless without a AI-less reference.
2. what is the theory for the singularity to end all scarcity, driving GDP to infinity, as long as we are not living in the matrix but have a physical life? How does it build housing or infrastructure, grow and collect crops, supply fresh water, eliminate waste, not speaking of ending wars, curing cancer or stabilising climate change? -

@Talia @carnage4life the key thing is that AI in that scenario is ‘just another tech’.
Automobiles and smartphones boosted growth and shaped society, but GDP just kept marching along the same trend line, anyway. It’s a little goofy to expect a different impact from AI, even if it’s wildly successful.
