Over one million citizens signed the petition to ban conversion practices.

    We hear you.

    And our reply is firm:
    ✋🏼These interventions must end.

Being LGBTIQ+ doesn’t need to be cured.

Yet, conversion practices, relying on the false idea that LGBTIQ+ people are sick, still exist and are causing long-lasting psychological and physical damage.

Your rights are an inseparable part of a true Union of Equality.

    We won’t let you down.🏳️‍🌈

@EUCommission Good, but I hope you don't shy away from Islamic etc. cases of this just for the sake of appearing politically correct. Tolerating intolerance and all that.

@DavidNorth @EUCommission practically correct - I'm not interested in a conversion therapy, and I agree it's a harmful concept. It's more about the principle. I really don't like it when a government decides what is good or bad for me.

        @PhoenixWright @EUCommission
The EU actually put out a statement supporting people's right to undergo gender reassignment recently.

"Conversion therapy" is something else entirely, It's a pseudoscientific "therapy" intended to make a person stop being LGBT+.

Like a lot of quackery, it is both harmful and and ineffective, which is why they want to ban it

Hello @Njord! Thank you for explaining, @PhoenixWright!

We also included a definition of these practices in our response:
Conversion practices on LGBTQ+ people are comprised of a diverse group of mental and physical manipulations, psycho-hypnotic indoctrinations (usually presented to public as “therapies”), medical and homoeopathic interventions, exorcism and other treatments enacted with the aim of altering Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression.

@EUCommission should have said: lgbtq+ not a disease. Next line: ban all "cures". Saying conversion therapy is not a cure one might imply that other things are. Sloppy work again

@AngelaScholder @EUCommission They can't enforce it, that is the weakness of the commission. Only the member states can enforce it. But the commission will write a formal recommendation to the member states to adopt such a ban. Its sad, that even that recommendation is still in the future, considering how much even just the idea behind such "therapies" (Better: Torture) violates the human rights in all EU countries.

              Hello @urwumpe, @AngelaScholder!
We considered several options, and, although a Recommendation is a non-binding legal act, it is the best and most effective instrument to achieve the objective of the ECI. That’s because banning conversion practices by means of criminal law is a competence of EU countries. Some countries have already done so. We are committed to supporting EU countries who are in the process of banning conversion practices and encourage others who wish to start the process. 🌈

@PhoenixWright @Njord @EUCommission that's transition. "conversion therapy" is pseudoscience bullshit claiming to "treat" people from their homosexuality or from being transgender, while giving them a bunch of new psychological issues.

But again, as a queer person, you are in the process of creating an awful situation with the #ageverification laws. Teens should be able to access information about LGBTQ+ topics without even fearing that it might be logged and tied to their ID. This is one of the many reasons why IF the #EUDI wallet needs to exist at all, ZKPs and offline operation MUST be a requirement and the standard before release - safety by technical design!

@PhoenixWright @Njord @EUCommission transition therapy is to help someone voluntarily transition from one phase to another.
Conversion therapy is the non consensual change from one phase to a correct configuration.

@Kosimus @DavidNorth @EUCommission so by following that logic... We shouldn't have agencies that do checks on the food we eat.... The type of compounds we allow in food or not.....
God forbid that the government does anything....

@thibaultmol @DavidNorth @EUCommission I think we should have agencies certifying food items as safe or unsafe. At the same time I really don't think an item lacking such certification should be automatically illegal. I just won't buy an unsafe item. Consequently, I don't mind info actions from the government advertising the obvious scientific fact that such conversion "therapy" is bull. It should not automatically make them illegal though.

Over one million citizens signed the petition to ban conversion practices.

Yet, conversion practices, relying on the false idea that LGBTIQ+ people are sick, still exist and are causing long-lasting psychological and physical damage.

@DavidNorth @thibaultmol @EUCommission IMO that's crossing the line. There are countless organizations, practices, and groups you could easily refer to as coercive, and they don't end up banned (and they won't)
                                          Agree to disagree? 🙂
