it is 2086.
the last available linus torvalds host body has decayed.
the linux foundation and the whole world are struggling to keep the project afloat. billions of dollars are on the line. the world is about to crumble to pieces.
a Man emerges on the horizon, amid the mist, as the possible replacement.
as he walks closer, you can hear him say:
"This is the 6⃣ 7⃣th thread outlining the upcoming features in the Linux Kernel version 9.0.0"

@fiore it is 2031. people have largely stopped caring about computers. there are apple and android phones, and android has been made fully closed-source through ai-clean-room. phones just have one big search bar where you type in what you want, and three feeds: a music feed, a video feed, and a microblogging feed.
the gnu gpl has been marked as affiliated with terrorism, and self-hosting on the internet is no longer possible due to childhood safety concerns.
there are around 8000 people left who have build a little net on dn42, and every few months, some part goes down to a new eu policy or some new natural catastrophe. they are circulating the last release of the linux kernel, arguing that since they introduced ai, you should trade your ball-point pen for a graphite pen, and trying to see whether they can get gnu/hurd to boot on real hardware at least once before even that network dies -
