I repeat, it's physically impossible to meet any motor traffic here. So it is very peaceful, safe and comfortable to ride and walk completely uninterrupted. Just bliss.

@pekkatahkola This looks absolutely magical, like something straight out of a winter fairy tale. totally brings me back to growing up in Canada in this kind of deep‑freeze glow.
I love it, but I can’t stop thinking that biking on what looks like a frozen sugar glaze has to be way more dangerous than these calm photos suggest
@inVinnieVeritas It's absolutely magically wonderful! And I'm sure you know _snow_ isn't really slippery. Especially cold snow isn't. Ice and wet ice are. And we've got great maintenance here, so basically you could even ride this with slick racing tires
It also makes a huge difference as we don't allow cars on the same surface to destroy the grip and polish the snow into slippery ice. -

@pekkatahkola Yeah I almost busted by head open climbing over a mountain of ice just to press the pedestrian beg button to get permission to leave my house on my bike. Oulu sure sounds nice.

Took this picture to remember what caused all those falls.From memory nobody biked on the other side of the Atlantic back in the 80s to early/mid 90s.

@tg9541 Wondering that too. Poor fella might have been damaged and or stolen, and abandoned, and/or maybe set aside by the snow plow driver. Still seems mostly bicycle-shaped though. No idea
@pekkatahkola I've been to Oulu; stayed there for a night, worked on the airport tarmac on a September day. I no longer remember why it was so important to be there, but I liked the town, and memories of some places are still vivid after 20 years.

This morning I cycled a bit on streets that were frozen over - slippery enough that getting on the bike was a challenge. Riding was relatively safe, thanks to studded tires.
