I know on at least two occasions I've boosted a post without alt-text while using a UI that didn't warn me first. In both instances, a follower kindly DM'd me and I quickly unboosted the toot.

I've also boosted a post after skimming the linked article, but missed a part that was misquoted in the post. Again, someone pointed it out and I unboosted the article.

I also once commented positively on an AI-generated image that I thought was real. Several people were quick to poke me for that one. I edited my comment to reflect my thoughts on AI misinformation posing as real photos 🀬

I'm sure I've made other mistakes roo, which is why attention to detail is so important.

@alice you corrected your mistakes to your level of satisfaction.

    That's all that matters.

I myself have begun auditing my past media posts to edit, correct, and improve my alt-text.

      Hey Fedi!

Despite my best efforts, I'm a flawed person, like any other.

Just something to keep in mind.

I (almost) always toot publicly, because I think sunlight is one of the best disinfectants. So, if you see me make a mistake, such as boosting or saying something incorrect, or coming across like a jerk about something, please call me out (gently if possible πŸ˜…), so I can do better.

I watched a video last night about out of touch celebrities, and while I only have a tiny fraction of their reach, I think it's good to remind myself about the dangers of thinking that people's interest in my opinions correlates in any way with their truthiness.

        @alice

The hallmark of a good person is not a lack of flaws, but rather the acknowledgment and continuous struggle of self-improvement, introspection and personal growth.

We all had to learn how to use a spoon at on point. We all make mistakes. It is how we act when we are told of our mistakes that makes the difference between a genuinely good hearted individual and well, one that is not.

(I'll go back to my usual antics of bad puns now lest people think I make sense)

Love this very much indeed. Think you're terrific. I've made mistakes (largely because I post one hundred billion times a day in a totally unfiltered way) and part of forward motion is owning, learning and accepting. No one is infallible, and the very best people imo recognise and own their mistakes. Thanks for posting this. Think you're even more terrific than I did before. πŸ˜Šβ€οΈπŸ™Œ

@alice i feel similarly and do want people to assume good intent, reach out to me if there is a problem and want to recognize that "call out culture" is not healthy (indeed, it is toxic) as we need processes that heal and restore.

i hope we on the fediverse move toward a "calling-in" type process to best create spaces that are safe and recognize that this is a better path forward:

@kaylee if you don't catch yourself on the little things, the rest are just a matter of degreeΒΉ πŸ˜…

ΒΉ this is not an excuse to self-shame, just a note that trying to do better works at any scale.

@alice I'm hardly a reliable source, and I'm not 100% sure you need to hear this rn, but fwiw, imho, just be you, and you're good enough.

@TheBreadmonkey I recognize that with over 8K followers, I have an oversized reach compared to most folx, so I try to take great care to only post things that make Fedi and its users' experience better (or at least better informed).

I'm forever still getting used to being a niche internet micro-celebrity, and I don't take even that small amount of power lightly. I think it's way too easy to start to believe I'm entitled toβ€”rather than just blessed byβ€”y'alls attention.
