Nürnberg was ultimately a failure of denazification, and an object lesson in how not to fail. I would always argue that a metaphorical death is better than execution as that at least leaves a possibility open for the criminal realising the harm they caused.

Although in the case of the trans community, I am not sure redemption will ever be possible.

The main problem was that Germany was allowed to govern itself too fast again. And that all the old cops, clerks etc who were ardent Nazis could just continue.

As much as the idea that they deserve no mercy appeals to me (I mean, we are talking about people who think they thrive under pressure, so send them to the bottom of the Marriannas Trench I say ...) I feel that psychiatric treatment so that they understand EXACTLY what they have done is better.

Because, if successful, we will get to see their faces when the full horror of what they have wrought fully and finally hits them.
