This shit scares me so much.
Not because I live in Kansas.
But because I *know* that this is something that's gonna happen here in Germany as well. Because conservative, and liberals will, come the time, downright cooperate with the fascists or (if it doesn't come to that) the social-democrats and the greens will accept legislation like this as a compromise for little improvement elsewhere. And I *know* that people in our conservative parties would love such legislation. They didn't want that people can change their gender in the first place.
And I am certain many people out there think the sameShit like this makes me thinking if deleting my gender marker is a good idea or if that just makes the target on my back even bigger

I want to add: The only people I trust to not cooperate with or introduce anti-trans legislation are Anarchists.
And I am really pissed off about liberals who seemingly support trans and non-binary people and keep going. Not asking what they can do support us. Just a flag or a post on social media about how cruel this is and then they keep going on with their lives and give a shit, instead of making plans. Preparing. Organizing. Drawing a line *now*, not when politicians start to introduce their ideas.

@enbypirate
I can't really help you with the decision and I had similar thoughts before I changed it.
I can just say, so far it feels right to have a matching record and so far I haven't regretted it and the doubts if that was the right decision have vanished at some point. -

@enbypirate On "left-wing" liberals: They might even be perfect little trans allys... but their strong belief in institutions will end up hurting us either way: They set up little gender courthouses with little gender judges, juries, cops, and executioners. They make gender affirming care harder to get without their consent and they criminalize the alternatives. Justifying this with: "protecting the children" or "integrity of women's sports".
I personally think that EU is pretty resistant to USA -style authoritarianism and that the general trend is that things are getting better. But there are daily setbacks.

The AfD would definitely like this as would the CSU down here in Bayern, but for the moment I do not think it will happen because so far such legislation would be ruled unconstitutional (which is exactly why the TSG was replaced with the SBGG even though the Union dragged its heels and hobbled the eventual law).
I honestly do not know how they would rule on sex markers on driving licenses though, as they do not have sex markers, unlike British driving licenses (albeit encoded only into the Driver Number).
As for the X marker, this has definitely been a topic of discussion for putting targets on backs, and I think the only way around it would be for 100% of the population to voluntarily switch from M/F to X. Unfortunately that cannot happen as the rules, insofar as I understand them, do not allow for this!
Quite why the State insists on knowing exactly what junk we all have is beyond me, outside rigidly controlling how we identify, dress, address, and otherwise perform our "genders correctly" of course!

@alexadeswift I think we are 10-15 years away from that.
The Trumpists, Poles, Hungarians etc wrote the playbook: replace the judges in the supreme court with ones that follow your policy, sue against the SBGG and that leads to its abolishment. Or change the constitution with a right-wing majority, so it denies trans- and non-binary people their existence. I do not trust the German institutions in that regard.
And even if that kind of legislation doesn't come forward: we will be targeted somehow. I am sure of that. And I'm not sure what to do. The cops already know me quite well and that might give them an extra reason -

@nitana I don't trust those institutions that far.
Everything that's needed is a fascist government in Germany and/or France and the whole thing comes crashing down. -

The cops already know me quite well and that might give them an extra reasonIt is all about control. And in this we are already being targeted, so basically nothing changes.
Or to put it another way, I reversed roles with my psychiatrist some months back and basically asked him how he would like it if he had to prove his gender and sexuality to obtain the services and healthcare he gets automatically, and on a daily basis.
He looked as though he was about to throw up. I told him that this is my daily reality as a trans woman.

For the US, it's Trumpists. For Poland, it's "Poles".
No, Poles didn't write the playbook. Conservative politicians representing maybe a third of the population (if that) did. Exactly like in the US. If it's not "Americans wrote the playbook", then neither is it Poles.
I am Polish, I am trans, and I do not feel responsible for the blatant disregard for democracy OR common decency that conservatives here have. I do not even think my country, shitty as it is, is mostly people who are fine with the Supreme Court changes.
And no, I do not trust the Polish state. Or any state for that matter. But... the phrasing is hurtful to me. I would imagine many Hungarians would feel similarly.

@oddtail thank you for the feedback!
I need to apologize. I was a little bit desperate and angry. I know it's PIS and Fidesz doing that crap in Poland and Hungary
Again: I am sorry -

I just felt I'd speak up, but I am not angry or anything. I know it was just unfortunate phrasing. -

I just felt I'd speak up, but I am not angry or anything. I know it was just unfortunate phrasing.(and also I have no illusions that the Polish state, and most liberal politicians and even some nominally "leftist" ones, will happily throw trans and NB people under the bus.
I'm enough of an anarchist politically to have no illusions about that)

I agree, the phrasing is, well, problematic. It similarly reads as the the whole of the German populace and/or state organisations are pushing this hard right anti trans shift, which is not true any more than is the case in the US or UK. It is overly simplistic and I glad that you, as a Pole, have been able to bring this up (as doing so is much more authentic and carries more weight).
