Question for those who work with their hands a lot, how are you keeping your fingernails from peeling and breaking at the tips? I have tried oiling mine, keeping polish or base coat on and at times gloves for gardening, hardware building and repairs, etc. (but don't like the loss of sensation so not often). Sometimes I wear press ons for a quick cover up but not my favorite thing either. I just did a plumbing repair thing and lost a lot of new growth so looking for suggestions. #askfedi #nails

I am also mostly using a nail file as needed instead of clippers and not overly/aggressively trimming the cuticle and proximal folds. But when the nail growth is about 2/3rds about the length of the bed it starts peeling.

@chillicampari I don't even try, tbh. Pottery and nails are a bad combo.

@APBBlue yes, pottery seems like it would be pretty rough on them.

@chillicampari They're also rough on pots! Unintentional scrapes and dents. 😂

@chillicampari i use thick gloves almost always. i don't like the loss of sensation, but i do like the keeping of fingers and skin and such.

@necrophcodr yep, I might need to do that at some point. I prepped my nails last night for repotting today and between that and the plumbing repair from yesterday they are pretty shredded.

@chillicampari I don't work with my hands a lot, but when you said you've tried polish, did you mean the regular stuff you can buy in a drugstore or the gel kind that has to be hardened with a UV light?
